"it's more than handing out supplies. it's about making connections and being a resource."

HOW WE WORK:

collecting supplies

Currently we collect pads, tampons, and hygiene wipes through donations. We primarily use our Amazon wishlist to keep these products "in stock" so that they can be distributed throughout the city. We also have various Official Flo Charlotte Collection Centers, where supplies can be dropped off. A member of the Flo Charlotte team picks up donations from each of these collection centers monthly!

distributing supplies

Flo Charlotte aims to become a resource to those organizations that are on the front lines fighting homelessness, poverty, and violence. Products are distributed throughout the city as the need arises from local shelters, schools, and agencies. Pads and tampons are dropped off at locations around Charlotte for distribution.

Where we donate:

charlotte-area schools

We are working diligently to form connections with social workers throughout CMS and have delivered boxes of pads to many elementary, middle, and high schools in the Charlotte-metro area. In the 2023 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Instability and Homeless Report, it was reported that “4,815 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Students [were experiencing homelessness] in the 2022-2023 school year.” In the report, it was noted that this was a “2% increase from 2018-2019 school year.” Read the full report here.

In the 2022-2023 school year, Flo Charlotte donated to 48 elementary, middle, and high schools! Every single supply we handed out was funded or sent in by community donations. What an incredible testament to the truly generous and community-minded nature of the humans who live in the Charlotte-metro area and beyond!

Please let us know if your school could benefit from access to feminine hygiene products for your students!

atrium health - COMMUNITY NAVIGATOR PROGRAM

Flo has begun working directly with a Community Navigator from Atrium Health. The goal of this program is to “connect patients to nutrition benefits, emergency food, housing, transportation, and mental health services.” (source) This is a unique way Atrium Health is meeting not just the physical and mental health needs of its patients, but the socioeconomic needs as well.

hope street food pantry

Hope Street saw a need for food resources in their location specifically when they realized most students in their area qualified for free or reduced lunch costs at school. UNHEARD VOICES CLT

Unheard Voices CLT is an organization that we recently started collaborating with. According to the website, Unheard Voices “is a nonprofit organization founded by women whose goal is to create equality in our community by helping disadvantaged individuals and their pets. To accomplish this we are initiating a variety of projects tailored to different needs in our neighborhoods.”

Currently they are working on their project called Bags of Love. They are collecting purses and bags and filling them with hygiene supplies for distribution.
