FAQ

Q. How do you get the products to the people who need them?

A. We work hand-in-hand with local shelters for the unhoused, domestic violence shelters, nurses/social workers at schools, and other resources in and around Charlotte to distribute the items that are donated. We have developed relationships with these organizations and they know to reach out when they’re running low as well.

Q. Are you a 501c3 non-profit organization?

A. YES! We officially received our 501(c)(3) status letter in June, 2017!

Q. where do your donations go?

A. Here is a list of places to whom we have donated since our establishment in January, 2017. We are always adding new donation sites as we form partnerships with like-minded organizations aimed at helping those in our city.

Q. we would like to be an official donation center for flo charlotte. how do we get that set up?

A. Email our Director of Community Outreach, Audrey, and she'll take it from there!

Q. are you affiliated with any political or religious groups?

A. Flo Charlotte is not affiliated with any political party or religion. One of the most amazing things about the donations that we get is that they come from all kinds of people from a variety of social, religious, political, gender-identity, and geographic backgrounds. We believe that diversity is part of what makes our city an amazing place.

q. WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION ABOUT MENSTRUAL HEALTH AND HYGIENE?

A. Head over to the National Institute of Health’s page entitled Menstruation and Menstrual Problems for an FAQ and best practices guide to keep you healthy!

q. is your organization gender-specific?

A. If you need ‘em, we got ‘em. We recently updated the website/social media pages and the verbiage on our printed materials to reflect more gender-inclusive language. While the majority of organizations and humans that we reach identify as female, we recognize that gender is a spectrum and that non-binary and transgendered individuals may also experience menstruation.

q. can i donate period panties or menstrual cups?

A. Period panties might just be one of the coolest inventions ever, and we absolutely can accept those. Menstrual cups, while I’m a big personal fan, cannot be accepted at this time. The school systems and shelters aren’t able to distribute these to the people they serve due to hygiene concerns due to unfamiliarity. For this reason, we don’t accept them— we have a lot of trouble moving them. We want to be good stewards of every single donation, and those get stuck in limbo unfortunately. If this changes, we will shout it from the rooftops!! -AB
